In a series of tweets, Rajnath Singh, a senior BJP leader and Defence Minister of India has questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who is on the last leg of his Bharat Jodo Yatra over the rationale of his yatra.
He said, is our India breaking up? Implying if, according to Rahul Gandhi, India is a broken nation?
India’s stature is high in the international world. A leader has set out on a Bharat Jodo Yatra. Is our India breaking up? They say that hatred is on the rise in India. They are working to tarnish the image of India
Rahul Gandhi’s Idea of India
Indian National Congress (INC) is the name of the political party Rahul Gandhi belongs to. His party’s name is derived from the word Indian nation that, to a layman, basically mean Congress party of Indian nation.
However, Rahul Gandhi does not think India as a nation. He has spoken his mind on his idea of India and Indian nation on several occasions both in parliament and outside.
He does NOT think of India as a nation. He has said, the word ‘nation’ is a western concept; India is a union of states, like Europe.
One could ask him if so, then why nationalists leaders including his ancestors used the word nation in the name of political party they belonged to.
But more importantly, because Rahul Gandhi’s idea of ‘India as a union of states’ could not have existed before promulgation of Constitution of India on 26th January 1950, he should clarify what idea of India, if any, existed prior to that.
