On 15th December 2022, Bilawal Bhutto tried to link PM Modi’s name with 2002 Gujarat riots and made uncivilised remarks against India’s PM while speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of UN Security Council meeting.
Within a month, BBC comes up with a documentary raising exactly the same issue as Bilawal Bhutto did in the middle of December.
What a coincidence!
The first episode of BBC’s documentary ‘India: The Modi Question’ aired two days ago, on the same lines as Bilawal, questions Gujarat CM’s response to riots and casts aspersions on the functioning and the authority of the Indian Courts.
Any connection between the two? The documentary must have been on its way in December. Was Bilawal’s comment just a promo of the BBC content to be aired soon?
Pakistan is scheduled to have general election in few months this year. Because, in Pakistan, being patriotic and nationalist means trumpeting anti-India, anti-Hindu and anti-BJP/RSS cards, it is natural for Pakistani politicians including Bilawal to raise tirades against India and PM Modi.
In India too, with the ongoing Bharat Jodo yatra, Rahul Gandhi’s congress and other like-minded political parties including left are already in election mode for the general election scheduled next year in 2024. Again, anti-BJPism is the main theme of Rahul Gandhi before the voters.
In the home turf UK, the Labour and Liberal democrats need to be consolidating their positions and prepare for the general election scheduled in 2025.
UK has 3.9 million Muslims that make 6.5 % of UK population. The city of London has 15% Muslims. Therefore, Muslim votes are crucial for outcome of general elections particularly in marginal constituencies. Traditionally, UK Muslims align with the Labour party. Their aspirations and demands, particularly related to Kashmir are expressed through Labour Party apparatus. This explains Labour Party’s anti-semitic and anti-India policies and stands.
Further, this pro-Pak vote bank of Labour Party is unhappy with Rishi Sunak and his Conservative Party and will like Rishi to fail and leave the scene. One of the ways to destabilise Sunak will be through stalling UK-India free trade agreement negotiations. After leaving EU, UK needs free trade agreement with India (similar to one with Australia). Apparently, the said pro-Pak force in the UK do not want Free Trade Agreement with India to happen. No such trade agreement with Pakistan is possible.

Afterall, BBC is known to have a long history of liberal and left bias. Conservative Party leaders (including Margret Thatcher) have accused BBC of left bias on many occasions in the past.
