First batch of 2585 Naval Agniveers (including 273 Women) have passed out from the hallowed portals of INS Chilka in Odhisa under Southern Naval Command.
The passing out parade (PoP), held Tuesday evening after sunset on 28th March 2023, was attended by the daughters of Late General Bipin Rawat, India’s first CDS whose vision and drive helped the Agniveer scheme translate into reality.
P.T. Usha, renowned track and field athlete and Member of Parliament, interacted with the women Agniveers.
Agnipath Scheme, implemented in September 2022, is a tour of duty style scheme for recruitment of soldiers (both male and female between age 17.5 to 21 years) below the rank of commissioned officers into the three services of the Indian armed forces. All recruits enter service for a four-year period.
Personnel recruited under this system are called Agniveers (Fire-warriors) which is a new military rank. They undergo training for six months followed by 3.5 years of deployment.
